The National Climate Change Security Response Programme (NCCSRP) is an intervention aimed at offering support to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, as well as other actors, with a special emphasis on the recently launched Greening program.

The NCCSRP's ambition is to provide strategic preparedness for National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), the National Police Service (NPS) command, Correctional and Borstal Services to facilitate the implementation of climate change interventions.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has a country-wide infrastructure of NGAOs. This offers a robust potential to provide coordination support to achieve the objectives of the Ministry of Environment.

Background

For two years, NCCSRP has been driving a whole-of-society response climate change, turning Chiefs, youth, women, and local groups into frontline champions of resilience. Together, we are growing trees, protecting livelihoods, and safeguarding Kenya’s future.

From Policy to the People: Kenya’s Climate Action at the Grassroots

Every first Friday of the month, Chiefs lead communities nationwide in Chiefs Climate Action Day (CCAD) — a bold tradition where citizens plant trees, restore ecosystems, and build resilience. With the support of key partners — International Alert, IGAD, WRI, and The Rockefeller Foundation— NCCSRP is scaling training, expanding nurseries, and positioning Kenya as a global model of community-led climate security.
